I got this after trying out and returning a cheap Elta I saw at the BX. It was 1/4 the price but this hand vac is easily 4 times better and worth every penny. I can't say how long the battery lasts but the suction is very strong and it looks great. It's a bit bulky compared to other hand vacuums but because of the small size and rotary action of the nozzle, it gets everywhere you need and it's not too heavy. I am in a very dusty location and got it to keep a small dorm space picked up of crumbs and rogue hairs. It sucks up just about anything that will fit through the nozzle including bottle cap wrapper seals. The shelf packaging comes inside a Black Decker shipping box that is about 13"x13"x8". After the required initial 21 hour charge it was ready to go. The light on the charging base stays lit any time the unit is docked and doesn't turn off to indicate that it has a "full charge." The manual says it can be docked indefinitely without warnings about overcharging. The charging plug is 110/120v only and not universal voltage. I charged it on a step-down transformer where I'm pretty sure the power output is still the input 50Hz and not the usual American 60Hz.br /br /I decided on this one after seeing some mixed reviews of the newer BD PHV1810. That one looks like they trimmed some bulk from the core, maybe some weight too. That wasn't important to me especially as it sounded like it didn't perform up to this one.

I love the this vacuum but it is a bit loud. That is my only complaint - otherwise, great purchase, fast shipping and highly recommended.

Stinkbugs vs. Black and Decker Portable Vacuum - Peter H Hendrikson -
I purchased a Black and Decker PHV1800CB cordless vacuum primarily for my war against an ongoing stinkbug invasion. I am extremely pleased with the results. Sucks them up every time and somehow they cannot get out again. The cost of the portable vacuum was near that of advertised bug vacuums whose performace has been evaluated as poor by numerous people. I also have used the vacuum to eliminate them from inside my cars, and while I was doing that decided to vacuum the carpet and mats as well. I was pleased to discover it worked quite well as a normal vacuum. It will not relace a typical canister vacuum, but works better than I expected. Perfect for surface dirt, not so much for ground in dirt or pet hair. The charge seems to last quite some time if you consider it is portable. I really like the stand/charger, which while quite large,as it is much easier to manage than the cord and plug in charger which I always seem to misplace. Its reach is another plus as is the ability to rotate the nozzle so you can reach the tops of window sills etc. I am planning on purchasing a second Black and Decker of the same model to keep for upstairs stinkbug combat and those crumbly messes the kids leave behind.
